The UNREMEMBERED – Silhouette

The scrolling text projected on the silhouettes of the Indian soldiers from World War II includes the names of some of the 87,000 plus who died during the war. Each line consists of their name, age, occupation, parent’s name, and address. And sometimes the wife’s name.

The piece acknowledges those who didn’t own family photos, reflected in the range of occupations of these “volunteers.” They were, for example, sweepers, tailors, and cooks, as well as those who fought on the frontlines.
